SHREVEPORT, LA - Don William Allen, 88, a retired Shreveport Attorney, passed away January 1, 2015 from a lengthy illness. A graveside service for Don will be held at 1:00 p.m. January 4, 2015 at Forest Park St. Vincent in Shreveport. Officiating will be Rev. Jonathan Beck.
Don was born on February 28, 1926 in Stephen, AR to Marcus L. and Nancy Crumpler Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 53 years, Jody Oliver Allen. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Nancy Allen Koorie and her husband, Dominic of Sugarland, TX; grandchildren, Neil Matthew Koorie and his wife, Shannon and Mark Allen Koorie and fiancé, Sherry Dill; also numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Don served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS LST 843 in the W. Pacific, Philippines and Japan. He received 2 Battle Stars for his service. After returning home he attended the University of Arkansas where he earned his degree as an Attorney and later acquired a Jurist Doctorate. He worked 35 years at Wheless Industries. Don was a member of numerous organizations, including being a charter Member of The American Association of Professional Land Men, Director of The Shreveport Petroleum Club, past President of The ArkLaTex Association of Professional Land Men and the VFW Post in Richmond, TX. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Shreveport.
Don was loving and giving and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
