Donald Gilbert Bonnette

Haughton, LA - Donald Gilbert Bonnette, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12^th, 2017, in Bossier City, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 16^th, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home in Shreveport. Services will held at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 16^th, 2017. Military honors will be conducted at Forest Park St. Vincent following services. Dr. Charles McInturf, pastor of Woodridge Baptist Church, will be officiating. Gilbert was born in Panola County, Texas on July 26^th, 1931 to Maggie and Hector Bonnette. He served as a U.S. Army Corporal during the Korean War. He worked as Construction Superintendent for Thompson Drywall for many years. Gilbert was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the outdoors. Many hours were spent with family and friends at his camp on Toledo Bend. He was a devoted Christian and placed God and family first in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret A. Bonnette; daughter, Brenda A. Bonnette; sister, Dorothy Meacham; brother, Sidney Bonnette and granddaughters, Casey and Lacey Bonnette. Left to cherish his memories is his beloved wife, Marie Gillespie-Bonnette; sons, Donald Bonnette Jr. and wife Sherry; Robert Gillespie, and Jay Gillespie; daughter, Ellen Gillespie Leone; brother, Robert J. Bonnette and grandchildren; Donald Bonnette III and Cynthia Bond. Honoring him as pallbearers are Jeffery Meacham, Donnie Meacham, Trey Bonnette, Robert Jack Bonnette Jr., Tommy Thompson, Mike Thompson, Frannion Bayles, and Tyler Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Thompson, Randolph Johnson, James Blocker and Robert Gillespie. A special thanks to Willis-Knighton Bossier, Dr. San Pedro and staff, and Fresenius Dialysis Center.
