Donald Lynn Buckley

Funeral services for Donald Lynn Buckley will be held on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 9:30 a.m at Summer Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, at Rose-Neath Funeral home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Don was born March 30, 1948, in Henderson, Texas, to Everett Thomas and Louise Hays Buckley. He was raised on a five-acre wonderland in Shreveport with flying squirrels, pet snakes, elaborate projects (trying to hand dig a swimming pool turned out to not be a great idea), close neighbor friends and his three siblings. He was a graduate of Woodlawn High School, much to his parent's great relief. He later joined the United States Army Reserves. After his service to our country, he became a master of carpentry, specializing in beautiful cabinetry & furniture. Many of his creations are now cherished family heirlooms. A born storyteller, Don never met a stranger, nor stopped making new friends. His door was always open to everyone. You would often find him with a cup of coffee and a cigarette, watching an old western or tinkering with his latest creations, such as, leather working and walking sticks, all lovingly made as gifts for others. Later in life, "Pops" took much pride and joy in his numerous grandchildren. He was especially proud of his National Champion LSU Tigers and passed away knowing that Lonesome Dove was the best book made into a movie of all time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Louise, and his infant brother Frederick and older brother, Tommy. He is survived by his sisters: Tena Buckley (Eddy Bozser), Amy Buckley, and sister-in-law Jo Ann Buckley; his children: David, Joe (Stephanie), Katie Rickert (Greg), and Rachel; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. And, of course, his beloved grandchildren: Finn, Hays, Colt, Dawson, Emmalyne, Novah, Alex, and Zach. He was also co-caregiver to a dog named Dudley. Pallbearers will be David Buckley, Greg Rickert, Joe Buckley, Finn Buckley, Hays Buckley and Colt Buckley. The family would like to send many thanks to the staff of Willis Knighton Bossier & SpringLake Nursing Facility for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please do something kind for a neighbor, plant a tree or donate to a charity close to your heart.
