Pat was born in New Orleans, LA February 22, 1953 to his proud parents Donald and Arthe' Duncan. In spite of struggling with congestive heart failure the last few years he successfully finished his race here on earth February 23, 2016. He grew up in New Iberia before moving to Shreveport, LA in 1963. Pat attended Capt. Shreve High School before graduating from St. John's Military School in Salina, Kansas. He went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech University.
After Pat was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1982 he went on to lead a very successful life as a brother, family member, a friend to many and a servant of God. He had a wave of the hand, a smile and a few kind words for everyone he met. He ran errands for people, checked on the needs of his friends and church family and gave gifts to many people for no particular reason. At the end of his life Pat did not give up, he simply finished the race. 1 Corinthians 9:24 says, "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize. So run that you may obtain it." He ran to obtain the prize, always focused on his call to love God and love his neighbors, and everyone was his neighbor.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Arthe' Duncan; his uncle Daniel Duncan and his wife Lucille Duncan; his uncle Robert Duncan and his wife Margie Duncan; his uncle John Latham; his uncle William Monroe and his wife Libby Monroe. Pat is survived by his brother, William Duncan and his wife, Lynne M. Duncan; his nephew, William Duncan, Jr. and his wife Kimberly Pitcher Duncan; his niece Christie Lafitte; his aunt, Edith Latham; and many cousins.
Thanks to all who he considered a friend and who looked out for him over the years. A special thanks to the staff and patrons of Strawn's Too, where he ate, almost daily and to Scotty and Steve Osborne and the staff of Broadmoor Garage for keeping his 1990 F-150 on the road for nearly 400,000 miles. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at University Health and the staff at Southern Oaks Nursing Home for watching over Pat the last few months. The family requests memorials are made in lieu of flowers to St. Paul\'s Episcopal Church, 275 Southfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71105 or National Alliance for the Mentally Ill at NAMI.org.
