Donna Jean Sheffer

Mrs. Donna Jean Sheffer (née Buys) closed her beautiful blue eyes for the final time in Shreveport, Louisiana on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the age of 84. Donna is survived by her husband of 52 years, Mr. Dwayn Sheffer; her children Debbie Tate, Russell Tate, Cliff Tate, Patrick Tate, and Rodney Tate; her grandchildren Erika, Beau, Jenny, Samantha, Penny, Mike, Katy, Meagan, Michael, Tina, Eve, Tricha, Joe, Denny, Garrett, Giovanni, Deacon, Allegree, Tanya, and Heather; her 22 great grandchildren and her sister Ms. Gloria Root. She is preceded in death by her son Michael Henry Tate of Flint Michigan. Donna was born on February 11, 1931 in Big Rapids, MI to Susan and Systrand Buys. She was a loving mother to her six children and a wonderfully fun Grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donna was always ready with a kind smile, a warm embrace, or a funny story. She enjoyed spending time junking, sewing and crafting. Donna was an accomplished artist who loved to paint; she also enjoyed making old things new again by restoring antiques. As Donna moves on to her heavenly home she leaves a wonderful legacy of loved ones who were blessed to know and love her. She gave us roots, and now she has her wings. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana. A reception and celebration of life will follow at the family home in Shreveport. The family would like to thank the staff of Interim Health Care for their dedication in caring for Donna. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The National Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinsons.org .
