Donnie Gene Mason

Funeral services for Donnie Gene Mason, 80, will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Brother Billy Crosby.

Don was born on July 18, 1942 in Bossier City, Louisiana to Raymond Mason and Sudie M. Eastman and passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Don was married to the love of his life, Linda Mason for 58 years. He worked for General Motors for 23 years as a stationary engineer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his loving companion, Rebel, at Holly Mound. He was a very giving person with a compassionate and kind heart. He impacted many young people throughout his life as a mentor, youth minister and baseball coach. Don was an avid Dallas Cowboy and LSU football fan. He loved fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patsy Traylor; and brother, James Mason. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda; daughters, Tammy Smith and husband, Ray, and Rhonda Barr and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Corey Smith and wife, Deborah, Shelby Smith, Grayson Barr and fiancé, Carter Toms and Mason Barr; great-grandchild, Vivian Smith, age 1; sister, Linda Gentry and husband, Jimmy; brother, Danny Mason and wife, Glenda; sister-in-law, Betty Mason; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring Don as pallbearers will be Brad Gentry, Kevin Calhoun, Scott Mason, Steve Mason, JP Brawley and Randy Smith. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jay Ligon and Dallas Feeheley.

The family would like to express special thanks to Jennifer Cypher, PA and Richard Sipes, MD as well as Amedisys Hospice, Hospice nurses: Courtney Gregory and Amanda Lindberg, caregivers: Minnie Fortenot, Liz Williams, and LaShon Clark. A special thank-you to dad’s “adopted son,” Kevin Calhoun.
