Dorethea Dell Tanner Spearman

Dorethea Dell Tanner Spearman, 91, passed from this life into paradise on May 17, 2024, at Willis Knighton North in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dorethea was born in Malvern, Arkansas, in 1932 to Olivia Huey and Charles Martin Tanner. The family lived in Hot Springs before moving to Rodessa. She married O’Farrell Spearman in 1950 and lived the majority of her life in Vivian, Louisiana. She was a faithful Christian, a devoted homemaker, and O’Farrell’s partner in his electrical business.

She predeceased by her parents, husband of 62 years, her first son, Thomas O’Farrell Spearman, her sister, Helen Moore and husband, Woodrow, and sister, Mary Hooper and husband, Bobby.

Dorethea is survived by her son Michael Spearman (Debra) of Vivian, LA; her grandchildren, Brigette Melton(Matt) of Bossier City, LA; T. O. Spearman, Jr (Pam) of Texarkana, AR; Dr. Steven Bearden, Jr (Katie) of Shreveport, LA; Kristy Kelley of Royse City, TX; Tanner Spearman of White Hall, AR; 13 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorethea, known as D.D. to her grandchildren, was an involved and loving grandmother. She always thought of others before herself. She was a wonderful cook and made great sweet tea. Strawberry cake was her favorite. She was a loyal friend and a positive influence on many, always giving great advice when asked. She had many wonderful friends, including her church family.

The family would like to thank special friends, Steven Williamson and Ryan Hook for the support during her final hours.

A Celebration of Dorethea’s life will be held on May 31, 2024 at Pine Street Church of Christ, 900 North Pine Street, Vivian, Louisiana. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the memorial service at 12:00 noon. Officiating the service will be Bro. Ed Stover, assisted by Bro. Leonard Dean.
