Doris Vermelle Scales Gomery

Doris Vermelle Scales Gomery, 80, of Gilliam, LA, entered into rest September 28, 2023, at Pilgrim Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bossier City, LA.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA.  The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. before the service. 

Doris was born September 20, 1943, in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late Audrey Dean Little Scales and Forest G. Scales.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Forest G. Scales, Jr. (Frances); niece, Ruth Bennett Lamm (Jack); and nephew, Paul Scales (Lucie).  An active participant in the Walk to Emmaus community, Doris’ faith was deeply important to her.  She loved music, was a published songwriter and served as a devoted hospice caregiver to numerous patients and their families in the final stages of illness. 

Ms. Gomery is survived by her sister, Mary Frances Bennett of Cary, NC; and her brother, Doug Scales of Atlanta, GA; nephews Chuck (Culver) and Brian (Molly) Scales; nieces Charlotte Scales and Bonnie Claire Dunn (Tim).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Every Home for Christ, 640 Chapel Hills Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80920-1035.  Rose-Neath Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
