Doris Jean Horn Lary

DORIS JEAN HORN LARY went to her home with Jesus on January 16, 2025. She was born in Quicksand, Kentucky on January 7, 1930. Her parents were Carroll O’Conner Horn and Thelma Gunter Horn. The Horn family moved to Minden, Louisiana when Doris was 12 years old. She married her high school sweetheart, Joe Lary in 1948 and celebrated 54 years together.

Doris joined the First Baptist Church in Minden on January 1, 1942. She was faithful in her service to carry the message of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through her love of music. She then went on to share her faith with those in Taylors, South Carolina and was a member of Taylors First Baptist Church where she had been a member of the Taylors Worship Choir and the Jacob Life Group.

Doris was a stay-at-home mom but went to work for Quade Studio in Minden retouching and painting photos. She later worked for the Webster Parish Library on the bookmobile for 12 years. After retiring she became Joe’s secretary with his position at SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) located in Decatur, GA.

Doris is proceeded in death by her parents, C.O. and Thelma Horn; her husband, Joe F. Lary; her sisters, Christine Horn Hughes, Josephine Horn Lee and Connie Horn Miller; her brother, Carroll O’Conner (Buck) Horn, Jr. She is survived by her children, Andrew Lary (Judy S. Lary, spouse) of Midland, TX, Diann Greer of Taylors, SC and Brenda Thomasson of Woodbridge, VA. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. She also has 4 nieces and 5 nephews.

Visitation will be held on January 24, 2025, 9:00-9:45am at Kilpatrick Rose Neath Funeral Home, 211 Murrell Street, Minden, Louisiana. A private graveside service will be held for the family only.

We would like to thank the caretakers who helped care for Doris for many months through Cresent Hospice and family friends who would sit with her.
