Doris Eloise Powell

SHREVEPORT, LA - A graveside service to celebrate the life of Doris Eloise Barnett Powell, 89, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. Her sons-in-law, Pastor Jerry Gill and Gary Northen, Jr., will officiate. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr.

Doris was born on March 31, 1928, in Lindale, Texas, and passed from this life on June 18, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with lung disease. She was raised on her family farm in Lindale, Texas, attended Lindale High School and graduated from business college. She retired from Royal Insurance Company.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Glenn Powell; her father, John Chandler Barnett; her mother, Easter Rouse Barnett; and her sister, Lillian Barnett Kidwell.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Powell Northen (Gary), Pat Powell Gill (Jerry), and Melissa Powell (Greg); grandchildren Jaime Talley Collins (Dan), Jessica Talley Murray (Joben), Jenna Talley, Gary Northen, III (Morgan), Tyler Northen, Olivia Northen and Timothy Powell; six great-grandchildren, Madeline, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Jacey, Josiah and Jett; a special foster great-granddaughter, April; sister Jane Sandifer; and brothers Robert Barnett (Cricket) and Jerry Barnett (Barbara).
