Doris Thomas Doris Thomas, 103 years old passed away peacefully on June 18, 2015. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Carl E. Rhoads of First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. Doris Thomas was born on February 4, 1912 in Saline, LA. She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, LA. She attended Friendship High School and won the American Legion Award in recognition of courage, character and service. Doris was Vice-President and Valedictorian of her senior class. Doris was preceded in death by her parents Nannie and William H. Hall; her husband Troy K. Thomas; and son-in-law Joe Preston. She was one of eight children. She is survived by her daughter Medreth "Medy" Preston, granddaughter Laura Roe and husband Fred of Mobile, Alabama; great-grandchildren Stephen Roe and wife Natalie, Michael Preston Roe and David Patrick Roe and three great-great-grandchildren Bennett, Emory and Jacob Roe. She is also survived by one sister Ann Helen Smith of West Monroe, LA. Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons Stephen, Michael and David Roe, and Fred Roe, Jr and Randy Wilson. The family wishes to thank friends, caregivers and staff at the Oaks of Louisiana. Your love and support comforted us through this journey for a lady that had an amazing life. The family would also like to express their love and appreciation to Lucie Grove, RN Hospice Case Manager. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1567, Shreveport, LA 71165-1567, or the charity of donor's choice.
