Dorothy Laverne Orr Culbertson

A graveside service for Dorothy Laverne Orr Culbertson, 91, will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Michael Howard Culbertson.

Dorothy was born on November 20, 1931 in Carthage, Texas to Stanley and Alice Hamlin Orr and passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 in Shreveport.

Dorothy graduated from Carthage High School and received her Associate Degree from Corsicana Junior College. She was the first woman Deputy Sheriff in Caddo Parish from 1964 until retirement in 1986. Dorothy had a fun spirit about her! She was a people person that liked to stay on the go. She loved animals, fishing, playing cards with friends, and doing jigsaw and Sudoku puzzles.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard “Benny” Bendel Culbertson; brother, Stanley Arthur Orr; and two sisters, Mildred McCrary and Marie Crawford. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Michael Howard Culbertson and wife, Glenda; daughters, Linda Crawford and husband, Danny, and Laura Alice Culbertson; grandchildren, Michael Christopher Culbertson, Jason Dale Culbertson, Laura Maddox, Kelly Manuel and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Robert Hernandez and his staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont for the wonderful care and compassion given to Dorothy. Also, thanks to the staff of The Glenn and Life Path Hospice for the care and love given to our mother.

The family suggests that memorials may be given to the charity of their choice.
