Arcadia - A celebration of the life of Dorothy (Dottie) C. Hooks, age 94 will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Gibsland, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am with funeral service, officiated by Rev. Orville Bryant, following at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
Dottie was born November 1, 1921 in Bryceland, Louisiana and passed away August 25, 2016 in Ruston, Louisiana. Dottie retired from LP&L, now known as Entergy. She was active at her church, enjoyed reading, travelling and socializing with family and friends. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and granny; whose greatest attribute was her infectious laugh that would bring joy to your day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Susie Fomby Calhoun, her husband of 69 years, C.C. (Kit) Hooks, two brothers, E. Garland and Sidney Ray Calhoun and her favorite son-in-law, R.L. (Lynn) May. She is survived by daughter, Alyce Jane May of Ruston; two grandsons, Robert May and wife, Becky; David May and wife, Lindsay; and one granddaughter, Holly May and husband Joey Johnson, all of Simsboro. Eight great-grandchildren; Austin, Michaela, Christopher, Cole, Dorothy May, Katlynn & Breana Henley, Caleb Johnson; and a host of relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gibsland or to a charity of your choice.
