Dorothy Jane Johnston

DOYLINE, LA - A Memorial Service for Dorothy Jane Johnston, 81, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2018, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Pastor Thomas Brock, Jr. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Dorothy was born February 19, 1937, in Epps, LA to Francis Rutledge Mathis and James P. Mathis and passed away March 7, 2018, in Shreveport, LA. Dorothy loved her family more than anything else, and always made sure everyone had the support they needed without asking for anything in return. She made sure everyone around her was always well fed, and did so with a smile on her face. Dorothy enjoyed her work deeply, remaining employed as a hairdresser for over 40 years. She believed in hard work and self-sufficiency, values that she instilled in her children, grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Mathis, Jr., and sisters, Elaine Melton, Cynthia Brinson, and Geraldine McClurg. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 57 years, James H. Johnston, Sr.; sons, James H. Johnston, Jr. and wife Deborah, John Randolph McKnight and wife Diane, Jerry Johnston and wife Karen, and Jody Johnston and wife Judy; sisters, Sheila Thomas, Jeanette Edwards, Joann Campbell, and Judy Josey and husband Bo; brothers, Steve Mathis, Kenneth Mathis and wife Elma, and Sam Mathis; grandchildren, Trey, Sam, Jaren, Texa Rae, Clint and Ashley Johnston, and Paul Pearson; one great-grandson, Jude Johnston; and special nieces, Michelle, Judy and Lanna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
