SHREVEPORT, LA - Dorothy Annette Shaw Lea, beloved wife and mother, went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2014. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Winn Parish. Officiating will be Eric Amison and Harold White. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born in Montgomery, LA on June 13, 1943. She attended Atlanta High School in Winn Parish where she received the American Legion Award and the Crisco Award and graduated in 1961. She also attended Louisiana Girls State. And, in 1963 she graduated from Norton's Business College.
She married Lawrence Lea on April 20, 1963 and celebrated 51 years of marriage this year. She was blessed with two children, one daughter, Melanie and one son, Richard.
As a member of Haynes Avenue Baptist Church, Dorothy was a founding member of the Sisterhood group and provided leadership for several years. Dorothy had a deep, abiding faith that saw her through a long battle with cancer. She fought the good fight with grace, dignity and many smiles.
Dorothy was a creative and beautiful quilter and seamstress and delighted in all needle arts. She was a long time member of Red River Quilters, the Tributary Threadbenders and the Quilting Retreat Group. She loved to bird watch and garden and could grow the most beautiful roses.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Lawrence, her daughter, Melanie, her sister, Judy Fogger (Lloyd), her brother, Melvin Shaw (Johnnie), a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, two sisters/ brothers-in-law, an uncle and aunt in-law and many other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her son Richard, her parents, parent in-laws, her brother, Jerry, her sister, Darlene, brother-in-law, George and niece, Cindy.
Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers will be nephews and nephews-in-law and great-nephew, Scott Roberts, Mel Shaw, David Airhart, Eric Skains, Blake Skains and Jacob McManus.
The family would like to say a special thanks to all of Dorothy's medical teams, doctors, caregiver and the many friends and family that helped during this time of need.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made in Dorothy's honor to the charity of donor's choice.
