Funeral Mass was held for Dorothy June McDonald McClure, age 82, at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 600 E. 2nd Street in Homer, LA, on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with Father Pike Thomas, officiating. Interment followed at Lisbon Methodist Cemetery in Lisbon, LA. Visitation was held at St. Margaret Catholic Church on Thursday from 5-6:30 p.m. with the Rosary to follow.
June was born December 16, 1941, in Minden, LA, to J.C. “Bill” McDonald, JR, and Evelyn Holder McDonald. She entered into rest on February 26, 2024, in Homer, LA. June spent her entire life in service to others; husband, children, students, Town of Homer and grandchildren. She was a beloved teacher and mentor to many students over a career stretching three decades. June spent countless hours with FBLA members traveling throughout the United States. She was a devout member of St. Margaret Catholic Church serving in many capacities until her passing. June loved rooting for her Homer Pelicans in all sporting events, as well as other sports teams. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends during holidays with Christmas being her favorite spending hours of preparation, also wrapping presents for all family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband and father of her children, Leonard Paul Legendre; son, Joseph Clayton Legendre; sister, Evelyn “Bootsie” Parks; and son-in-law, Denny Wayne Bays.
She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Roy McClure; two sons, Leonard Michael Legendre and wife Amy of Homer and Kevin Legendre and wife Melissa of Decatur, TX; two daughters, Deborah Easterling and husband R.J. and Michele Bays all of Homer; sister, Billie Margaret Day and husband Reggie of Mineola, TX; brother, Charles “Bud” McDonald of Pea Ridge, LA; brother-in-law, William “Billy” Parks of Houston, TX; thirteen grandchildren, Joshua Legendre and wife Drue, Stephen Legendre and wife Callie, Holly Legendre, Allison Prickett and husband Jesse, Matthew Brown, John Brown and wife Natalie, Catee Ellerbie and husband Roger, Chris Ebarb, Dustin Bays, Kristie Beeson and husband Daniel, Chelsea Lamance, Morgan Reeves and husband Will, and Jacie Lamance; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
June’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Butler and nurse Kaleigh, along with other physicians, nurses and staff of Claiborne Memorial Medical Center for the care and compassion shown her latter years of her life.
Pallbearers were Joshua Legendre, Stephen Legendre, John Brown, Dustin Bays, Cade Ebarb and Roger Ellerbie.
In lieu of flowers honoring June, her family suggests memorials be made to St. Margaret Catholic Church in her name mailed or directed to St. Paul Catholic Church office at 410 Fincher Road, Minden, LA 71055.
