Dot was born on November 25, 1930, in Haynesville, and passed peacefully from the embrace of her granddaughter into the arms of her Lord and Savior on October 19, 2022, in Shreveport, where she resided most of her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Joe Russell, Sr.; parents, Bessie and George Herman Talley; daughter, Patricia Ann; sister, Janice Wayenberg; brother, Richard Talley; sisters-in-law, Judy Talley, Barbara Talley and Alla Talley; and brothers-in-law, Charles “Shorty” Russell and Warren “Bub” Wayenberg.
Survivors include son, Joe Russell, Jr., and wife Kerri; daughter, Linda Williams and husband, Roger; grandchildren, LeAnn Russell Waldroup (Matt), Bruce Williams, Nick Williams (Deanna), CJ Russell (Alexis), and Patrick Williams (Katie); great-grandson, William Waldroup; sister, Sandra Sasser (Lynn); brothers, Jerry Talley, Jimmy Talley (Neale), and Bobby Talley (Terry); sister-in-law, Jane Russell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dot loved life and making others laugh. Most importantly, she loved God and her family. She was a founding member of Ford Park Baptist Church, and served as the director of their preschool and daycare for decades, positively impacting the lives of so many of Shreveport’s children and families. She and Joe loved to travel with friends and never missed an opportunity to take their grandchildren on a summer vacation. In her later years, Dot enjoyed activities with her friends at The Glen, especially bingo and bean bag baseball. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Honoring their grandmother and aunt as pallbearers will be Bruce Williams, Nick Williams, CJ Russell, Patrick Williams, Matt Waldroup, and Timm Sasser.
Heartfelt gratitude is expressed to the staff at The Glen and Lifepath Hospice for the loving care they provided.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe.
