SHARON COMMUNITY, LA: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Dorothy M. Simmons, 86, at Sharon Baptist Church in Sharon, LA, on Saturday, February 28, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Carol Holmes, officiating. Interment followed at Salem Cemetery in Bloomburg, TX. The family received friends at the church, on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Mrs. Simmons was born January 20, 1929, in Benson, LA, to Frank and Sylvia Martin. She entered into rest peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 24, 2015 at her home in Dubach, LA. Mrs. Simmons was a dedicated wife, homemaker and mother. She loved to laugh and have a good time. Mrs. Simmons held several bookkeeping positions and retired from Piggly Wiggly as a checker and bookkeeper. She felt at home in the Sharon Baptist Church where she served the Lord and enjoyed sewing, traveling, camping, cooking and various other activities, including reading through the Bible in a year. Mrs. Simmons was a prayer warrior and thought of others by sending out cards to the sick. She tried to look at life on the bright side and encouraged others to do the same. She loved being with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Simmons played the piano for Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Haynesville. Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, William Allen Simmons, Sr.; three brothers, Frank Martin, Jr., Earl Martin and Jack Martin; and a sister, Monita Kite. She is survived by a daughter, JoAnn Powers and husband Gary; a son, William Simmons, Jr. and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Gary Powers, Jr. and wife Laura, Corey Simmons, Melanie Greene and husband Wayne, and Angela Keith and husband Todd; great grandchildren, Georgia Greene, Wyatt Greene, Jack Keith and Kate Keith; sister, Estelle Puckett and husband Billy; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Robinson and Janice Hooker; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Gary Powers, Jr., Corey Simmons, Wayne Greene, Todd Keith, Dennis Puckett and Logan Puckett. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Sharon Baptist Church, Jack Keith and Wyatt Greene.
