SHREVEPORT, LA - Dorris Ward Mullen passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Atlantic Ave., Shreveport. Interment will follow at Forest Park East, St. Vincent Ave. Officiating will be Father Karl Daigle. Visitation for Dorris will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.
Dorris was born on October 2, 1932 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Raymond Walker Ward and Louise Morris Ward. She attended Putnam Heights grade school, Taft Junior High School, and graduated from Classen High School in 1950. She went on to graduate from Oklahoma University School of Nursing (Phi Beta Kappa) and worked as a registered nurse, attaining the position of Regional Manager for Crawford & Company in Shreveport, Louisiana, and retired at the age of seventy-five.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, John Paul Bynum; son, Perry Nathan Bynum; second husband of twenty- five years, Andrew Judson Mullen, M.D., and stepdaughter, Cornelia Mullen.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a member of the Shreveport Medical Alliance, serving as its past correspondence secretary, treasurer, and president. She was a life member of the Shreveport Symphony, the Shreveport Opera Guild, and a member of the Chapter M of PEO.
Dorris loved her family and friends and was never happier than when they got together for holidays and special occasions. Her avocation was interior decorating and design and she was renowned for her decorating style. Dorris was known for her exquisite sense of personal style, warmth, and wonderful sense of humor. She was generous and kind and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Ward Greggs; sons Randy Bynum, Jeffery Bynum and wife, Rebecca; daughters, Lisa Taylor and husband, Johnny, Gael Mullen Harris and husband, Douglas; niece, Shari Greggs Edwards and husband, Adrian; nephews, Cory Greggs, Tracy Greggs and wife, Erika; grandchildren, Emily Bynum, Sarah Jose and husband Nicholas, Elisabeth Grace McKennie, Judson Harris, Lauren Harris Hummel, Jenny Harris Lavey, Grace Harris and Shelby Harris; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Noah, and Isabella Jose.
