Funeral services for Dorsey B. Cleveland, 83, will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Bro. Chad Harbarger officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the funeral home.
Dorsey was born January 30, 1935 in Durant, OK to JD and Leona Ruth Cleveland and went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2018 in Shreveport. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Retired from the Deputy Assessors Office where he worked for 19 years. He also the taught three year old Sunday school class with his wife for 30 years, was a Royal Ambassador teacher, and a deacon of Emmanuel Baptist Church as well as the Training Union Director for many years. He was a member of the Masons. He loved to garden. Dorsey was known for citing numerous verses from memory. His focus was to reach those who were lost and spread the Word of Jesus, even in the nursing home. He was a wonderful, loving Christian husband and father to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dorsey was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Cleveland; son, Joey Dorsey Cleveland and wife Janice; daughters, Robin Cleveland Thomas and husband Jerry and Jeanna Cleveland Martin and husband Scott; grandchildren, Josh Neeson and wife Liv, Jessica Baker and husband Jeremy, Emily Jones and husband Michael, Joelene Cleveland Brown and husband Hunter, Rett Thomas, Jennifer Cleveland, Jerrett Thomas, Jacob Cleveland, RobiDonna Thomas, and Justin Cleveland; and great-grandchildren, Sadie Blake, Isabella Baker, and Penelope Neeson. He also left behind many wonderful, close friends.
Honoring Dorsey as pallbearers will be Josh Neeson, Rett Thomas, Jerrett Thomas, Jacob Cleveland, and Justin Cleveland.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Zweig, Dr. Richard Haynie, and Dr. Hernandez of Heritage Manor Stratmore for their care.
