Darrell was born on March 7, 1945 in Vivian, Louisiana to Morris Sherman Fitts and Norma Ellen Kirkpatrick Fitts and passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Richardson, Texas.

Darrell was a faithful Christian family man whose heart remained pure, no matter the circumstances of his life. His love for his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends was unwavering — always giving 100 percent with passion and purpose. He left a legacy of love, strength, and dedication. He cherished his wife of 53 years deeply and poured love and wisdom into each of his four children. As his children grew into adulthood, he extended that same love and care to their spouses. When his grandchildren came along and retirement freed his time, he moved close to each set of them for several years, to share wisdom and create treasured memories that will last a lifetime.

Darrell believed in education, obtaining several degrees: Bachelor of Science in Management and Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University, Master of Business Administration from Century College of Louisiana, Master of Philosophy from International University of Divinity and Doctor of Christian Administration, International University of Divinity.

He served in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5), SFM2 and served in the Vietnam War. He was an entrepreneur and owner of multiple small businesses and Vice President of Purchasing in telecommunications and oil tool companies. During his free time he was a nationally competitive water skier, avid mountain biker, was a passionate supporter of his children and grandchildren’s sports and extracurricular activities, loved fellowship and sharing the word of Jesus Christ with everyone and was a devoted math teacher. He loved attending Shreveport Community Church and serving with Tech Serve International.

He is preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson, Owen Lee Fitts. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rebecca “Beckie” Haynes Fitts; children, Rhonda Waters and husband, Jeremy, Darrell Fitts, Jr. and wife, Sonya, Dana Zander and husband, Aaron and Ryan Fitts and wife, Tara; grandchildren, Kimberlyn Henry and husband, Colton, Maggie Roberts and husband, Brandon, Tyler Waters, Kobe Fitts, Sarah Brown, Aubrey Zander, Luke Zander, Camryn Zander, Jaxx Fitts, Knoxlee Fitts and Cate Fitts; great-grandchildren, Nova Roberts and Maddox Henry and siblings, Edsel Fitts, Alfred Fitts, Jane Willoughby, Glenda Fitts and Wanda Nolan.

Honoring Darrell as pallbearers will be Darrell Fitts, Jr., Ryan Fitts, Tyler Waters, Kobe Fitts, Luke Zander, Jaxx Fitts, Jeremy Waters and Aaron Zander. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Edsel Fitts, Alfred Fitts and Roger Haynes.
