Dustin was born on July 9, 1980, to Kenny Roy Gilbert and Judy Lynn Thornton in Shreveport, Louisiana, and passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Dustin was a graduate of Benton High School. Known as a very kind, loving, and, generous person, Dustin supported the Shriners and St, Jude charities, causes that were particularly meaningful to him.
One of Dustin’s greatest joys in life was his furry companion, Boady. Their bond was unbreakable, a true testament to the special connection between man and man’s best friend.
In his free time, Dustin immersed himself in his hobbies and interests. A devoted fan of football, he cheered on the New Orleans Saints and LSU with unwavering loyalty. From a young age, Dustin harbored dreams of playing professional football and joining the ranks of the United States Navy Seals. His fascination with the Navy Seals led him to absorb every detail about their incredible feats through hours of documentaries.
Wrestling also held a special place in Dustin’s heart. Watching WWE Wrestle Mania and any wrestling-related content brought him immense joy. Additionally, Dustin had a penchant for movies, with horror being his preferred genre. His passion for cinema shone through as he delved into various films with enthusiasm and appreciation.
Friends and family will remember Dustin as a beacon of light in their lives. His presence will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dustin is preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert H. Thornton, Charlene Yates Thornton, and grandmother, Inez Gilbert. He is survived by his mother, Judy Thornton Sellars; father, Kenny Gilbert and wife, Ann; brother, Robert, and wife, Lisa; nieces, Jasey Gilbert and Cheyenne Gilbert; nephew, Nash Gilbert; stepsister, Ginger and husband, Bill Bliss and children, Will and Wyatt, along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Serving Dustin as honorary pallbearers will be the Benton Fire Department.
