Edmund H. Tooley III, age 95, passed away in Knoxville, TN, on July 25, 2016 following a brief illness. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by a short Vigil service, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street in Shreveport, LA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broadmoor at 10:30am on Friday, August 5, 2016, Pastor Mark Franklin officiating. Graveside services will follow at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Ave. Ed was born in New Orleans, LA, and moved to Shreveport in January, 1960. He was a registered professional engineer and retired as Operations Manager - Engineering for AT&T/BellSouth after forty four years of service. Ed was in the Army Air Corps in WWII as an instructor pilot and fighter pilot in the China-Burma-India Theater, ending his military career with the rank of Lt. Colonel. In China, he was a member of the famed Flying Tigers as a member of the 14th Air Force. He was a member of the 51st Fighter Group Association, the P-47 Fighter Pilots Association, 14th Air Force Association, the Military Officers of America Association (MOAA), Order of Daedalians Pilot Organization, the Telephone Pioneers of America-Caddo Council, the Knights of Columbus, a past President of the Pinecrest Parents Association, and was very active in the past with the Literacy Volunteers of America-Centenary Chapter. Ed was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as Usher and as a Lay Eucharistic minister. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund H. Tooley Jr. and Marguerite Fell Tooley, his first wife Doris Wertheimer Tooley, his second wife Dorothy Jarriel Scott Tooley, his brothers Duncan Sparks Tooley, Patrick Joseph Tooley, his sister Kathryn Mary Tooley, and nephew Tyrone Nelson Tooley. Ed is survived by his brother Felson Greig Tooley of Alexandria, LA; sons, Edmund Hatch Tooley IV (Phyllis) of Knoxville, TN, Leo Randall Tooley (Cindy) of Brooklyn Center, MN, Greig James Tooley (Sherri) of Hoover, AL, Michael David Tooley (Melissa) of Little Rock, AR, Brian Stephen Tooley (Laurel) of Richardson, TX; Stepson William Mastin Scott of Shreveport; Stepdaughter Margaret Scott of Benton, LA; sisters-in-law, Millie Painter Tooley of Bush, LA, and Mildred Lee of Shreveport; grandchildren, Shannon Tooley Brown (David) of Chattanooga, TN, Peggy Sue Tooley Heaton of Knoxville, TN, Brendan Tooley and Bridget Tooley of Brooklyn Center, MN, Cristina Tooley and Christopher Tooley of Hoover, AL, Kathryn Tooley of Washington, DC., Trey Lindsey (Thryce) of Clarksville, TN., Camille Tooley and Devin Tooley of Richardson, TX, Mary Elizabeth Scott and Cate Scott of Keller, TX; Great grandchildren, Allen Arwood of Knoxville, Kimberley Arwood of Minden, LA, Christopher and Edward Heaton of Kingston, TN., Zeke Lindsey , Avery Lindsey, Tanner Lindsey and Zack Lindsey of Clarksville, TN. Honoring Ed as Pallbearers will be the Men of Manresa; Mark Trombetta, Jim Kendall, Bill Fleming, Kim Green, Chuck Meehan, and Don Sonnier. Serving as honorary Pallbearers will be Eddie Blanchard and his Bell Engineers, Don Greer, Kevin McCotter, and Phillip Deaton. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brian Holoubek and Ray Ducharme for driving Ed to church and other errands. And, to Christine Sanders for her special care of "Poppa Tooley." Memorials may be made to Christian Services, Literacy Volunteers of America, St. Joseph building fund, Habitat for Humanity or charity of donor's choice. Ed was a loving, affectionate husband, father, grandfather, and friend who shared his time with all. He will be greatly missed.
