A private family funeral honoring the life of Edward L. Evans, 85, of Mansfield, LA, will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 19, 2020, at Calvary Baptist Church in Mansfield. Burial will immediately follow at Sloan Cemetery next to the church. Public visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2020, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Roseneath Funeral Home in Mansfield. Edward was born on September 8, 1935, to Jim and Melvy Smith Evans and entered into rest on October 14, 2020. He was reared in Benson, LA. Edward was a graduate of Pelican High School in Pelican, LA. He served his country as a member of the United States Army and was stationed in Japan. He was a journeyman millwright by trade and retired from his formal work life with Halliburton at the International Paper Mill in Mansfield in 2005. He had a gentle soul and enjoyed working with cattle, gardening, feeding his dogs, cats, rabbits, goldfish, raccoons, pet alligator and several other critters he made into friends. He was a hard worker, and he created "projects" all of the time. He found joy watching the LSU Tigers play football and playing the Louisiana Lottery. He spent many hours "pilfering," and he was master at this trade. He also found great joy taking naps in his truck under the trees on family property on HWY 509 in Mansfield. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Lester Evans, brothers Gorden Evans, Gene Evans, and Curtis Evans. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Parault Evans. They were married 63 years, 5 months, and 21 days. She was the love of his life, the mother of his children, his favorite cook, and his chief debate partner. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Latham, and husband, Ronnie, of Benson, LA; sisters-in-law, Helen Dull of Haughton, LA, and Mary Hinkie Ladd of Mansfield, LA; daughters, Lisa Jenkins and husband, Ned, of Converse, LA; Debbie Brewer and husband, Bruce, of Tishomingo, OK; son, Bryan Evans and wife, Veronica, of Stonewall, LA; grandchildren, Melisa Burr, Ray Allen Meshell, Clinton Jenkins, Amber Jenkins, Christina Brewer, Christian Evans, and Aaron Evans; great-grandchildren, Logan Meshell, Daniel Gandy, Jr., Aidan Bremer, and Aubrey Jenkins, Haze Hickman, & Kaylee Hickman Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
