Elbert Blakey Hemphill

HOMER, LA: Funeral services will be held for Mr. "Blakey" Hemphill, 85, at First United Methodist Church in Homer on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. R. B. Moore, officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Hemphill was born June 22, 1929 in the Arizona Community, LA to Sila and Annie Mae Hemphill. He entered into rest on Monday, June 8, 2015 in Homer, LA. Mr. Hemphill worked for Ludlow Corporation for over 30 years as accounting comptroller. Mr. Hemphill was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jona Wallace; as well as a sister and her husband, Peggy Marie and Harold Carpenter. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Jo Ann Stiles Hemphill; their children, Bucky Hemphill and wife Sharon of Athens, LA, Dr. Ray Spurlock and wife Chris of Athens, LA, Stephanie Gantt of Athens, LA, Donna Sue Alderman of IN, Robin Burcham and husband Roger of Springhill, LA, and Brenda Wallace of Linden, TX; a niece, Carol Ann Mullins and husband Anthony of Sarepta, LA; a nephew, Harold Ray "Bubba" Carpenter and wife Leslie of Nashville, TN; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; along with a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Paul Custer, Donnie Bell, Curt Bell, Troy Bridges, Timothy Bridges, Zack Smalling, Chazz Noland and Kevin Terral. Honorary pallbearer will be Sonny Collins. For friends considering memorials honoring Mr. Hemphill, his family suggests First United Methodist Church.
