Elizabeth Grace Longoria Barnes passed away peacefully and was called home on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 72. She was born to Fred and Irene Longoria in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 25, 1951.
Beth was a 1970 graduate of Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. On June 12, 1970, Beth married her high school sweetheart Stuart Alan Barnes. They had two children, Ashley and Michael, and were blessed to have celebrated 54 years together.
Beth was a dedicated employee who held two careers during her life before enjoying retirement. She worked for The Shreveport Times newspaper in Shreveport, Louisiana for about 20 years. After moving to Charleston, South Carolina, she worked for another 20 years at the law office of William L. Runyon, Jr. as the paralegal/legal secretary.
Beth led a very happy, active life filled with family, friends, and many activities. She enjoyed making wreaths, decorating her home for all holidays, and shopping for anything that would look good with her monogram on it. With her competitive spirit, she loved playing dominoes and card games with family and friends; however, she would tone down her competitiveness when playing with friends.
Beth was a member of Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, Louisiana. She enjoyed early Saturday morning breakfasts with close friends, going to her Sunday school class, and to church service. She was a former member of Charleston Baptist Church in Charleston, South Carolina where she enjoyed many activities with her life group there and church service. She was a woman of deep faith who would share about the power of prayer with anyone who would listen, especially those who were battling cancer, a journey she walked for 20 years. “God’s got this!” is a phrase that she was known for saying.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Irene Longoria. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Stuart; daughter, Ashley Reed (Phillip); son, Michael Barnes, and grandchildren, Bryce and AJ Reed.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to her doctors at Charleston Hematology Oncology in Charleston, South Carolina: Surgeons: Dr. T. Scott Jennings & Dr. George Grice, Oncologists: Dr. Elizabeth Christian, Dr. Shelly Shand & Lisa Smith, MSN, APRN-BC. Doctors in Shreveport, Louisiana at Feist Weiller Cancer Center: Dr. Gary Burton, Dr. Suma Chennapragda, Dr. Jaren Lerner, St. Joseph’s Hospice, The Carpenter House, and all of the many nurses and staff that were so loving to her. They all have our eternal gratitude.
