Ellen was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 10, 1948. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy and attended Loyola University. She obtained a degree in education from the University of New Orleans and began her career as an elementary teacher. She met her husband, M. Carl Rice, on the beach in Destin, Florida where Carl fortuitously took notice of her. They maintained a long-distance relationship until their wedding day on August 31, 1973. Carl and Ellen recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.
After joining in marriage with Carl, Ellen made her home in Carl's hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, where she provided love, care and counsel to their three children. Ellen will be remembered primarily for the love of her Lord, Yeshua (Jesus). She often traveled with her husband seeking the Holy Spirit. She was saved in the ministry of Marvin Gorman and she met every day with prayer and thanksgiving. Her voice was beautiful. Often times Ellen and Carl would perform hymns and gospel songs as a piano and voice duet. She enjoyed gardening and spending time at the Rice Farm. She was also a member of the Sequela Study Club, Era Club and The Shreveport Club.
Over the last six years she has enjoyed her role as "Ellie" to her six grandchildren. She was the world's best grandmother. She was highly sought after by the grandchildren because they knew how much their Ellie loved them, and she was also going to let them do whatever they wanted.
