Shreveport, LA - Elmer A. Baker, Sr. "Fatman", 72, of Shreveport was born August 11, 1944 and passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, in Blanchard. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Rose-Neath Bossier Chapel, with Bro. Bill Treadway officiating. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery, Bossier City. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rose-Neath Bossier Funeral Home.
Elmer was a paint and body man for 50+ years and later opened Old Folks Produce in Blanchard. He loved working his garden, selling produce and visiting with everyone who came by. He never met a stranger and everyone loved him.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, David R. Baker and Hattie M. Crye Baker;4 brothers, Bill, Harold "Junkman", Roy and Travis, Sr.; 3 sisters, Sybil, Norma and Lois; his loving wife of 50 years, Edna B. Baker; 2 sons, Elmer A. Baker, Jr. and Joe Don; grandson, Andrew and great granddaughter, Gracie.
Elmer is survived by 2 sisters, Lorene Carter of Bossier and Barbara Robertson of Oak Grove; his children, Michael Baker and wife, Lisa, Denise Stutts and husband, Roy and Janet Curtis; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Melissa and Ashley, the nurses from Regional Hospice.
Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Tullis, Daniel Roach, Roy Stutts, Jeffery Moody, Brandon Moody and Tommy Tullis. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Robertson and David Robertson.
