Eloise Holt Galloway died at her home May 17, 2017. She was born March 21, 1922 in Holly Springs, North Carolina, the daughter of Marcus and Hilda Holt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Benedict A. Galloway, her sisters, Helen Holt Davis and Grace Holt Buchanan, her brother, Richard Lawrence Holt, and son-in-law, Eldridge John Turner.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Margaret Galloway Stem (Al) of Richmond, Virginia and Katherine Galloway Turner of Shreveport, Louisiana. Also surviving are brothers, Frank (Dot) and Lonnie Holt (Ramona) as well as sister-in-law, Betty Holt, all of Raleigh, North Carolina. Grandchildren surviving are Ben Stem, Margaret Turner Brasuell, and Erich Holt Stem, along with great-grandchildren, Clay Brasuell, Brandon Brasuell, Shelby Brazzel, Allison Stem, Jonathan Stem, Henry Stem and Elena Dawson. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she held in high regard.
Eloise obtained her B.A. degree from Northwestern University in Natchitoches, Louisiana when her husband, a Methodist minister, was appointed to that college town in the early 1950\'s. Married for 57 years, the couple dedicated their working lives to the church. Eloise was a lifetime member of P.E.O and for many years taught Sunday School classes in the various churches to which her husband was appointed. She was known in the family for her quick wit, a quality she ascribes to all the Holts, her creative talents (decorating and china painting), her optimistic outlook on life, and her unwavering faith. Once, when asked what she thought was her best quality, she replied, \"I encouraged others.\"
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, the Reverends Greg Davis, Ray Branton, and William Peeples officiating. The family will receive extended loving family and friends at 1:00 PM prior to the service in the reception hall.
Honoring Eloise as pallbearers will be Brandon Braswell, Clay Braswell, Erich Stem, James Taylor, and Dan Yarbrough. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Orval Davidson, Gerald Holiday, Milton Pearce, Neal Ross, Ben Stem, and Curtis Turner.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ann Landry and her staff as well as Hospice of Shreveport/Bossier for all the excellent care Eloise received during her illness. Also, thanks to James and Sandra Taylor, Fane Peeples, and Janet Johnson for their help, support, and friendship.
