Shreveport, LA - Services for Mrs. Elsie Acree, 76, will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Summer Grove Baptist Church followed by a burial at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Officiating will be Reverend Billy Crosby, Reverend Murray Hodge, and Sr. Pastor Aaron Burgner.
Mrs. Acree passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 20, 2015, following a lengthy illness.
She is survived by her husband, Earl, of 58 years, and their three children and spouses, Lisa and Carl Prothro, Bruce and Leslie Acree and Troy and Cheryl Acree. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joshua and Caleb Prothro, Alison and Amber Acree, Jared Schonfarber, Emily and Noah Scruggs, Anna and Dustin Alexander, Jarad and Loren Gardner and Jenny Gardner. Her great-grandchildren are Ryleigh Acree, Alyssa and Nicole Prothro and Jadan Gardner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Florine Tedeton and siblings, Huey Tedeton, Herbert Tedeton, and Nellie Strickland. She is survived by two sisters, Lola Mae Monk and Mary Inez Jordan and one brother, Jack Tedeton.
Mrs. Acree was born on May 3, 1938, in Calhoun, LA and graduated from Calhoun High School in 1956. She lived most of her life in Shreveport, where she was an active member of Summer Grove Baptist Church and the New Beginnings Sunday School Class. For many years, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Acree was a member of the Gideon's Aux. She worked at Bell South and later at Walnut Hill Elementary School in the library.
Mrs. Acree loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays and in the summer, camping at the lake. The Acree's enjoyed traveling to places like Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Holy Land, her favorite trip of all. She loved tending to her garden, especially her day lilies, and reading, especially to her great-grandchildren.
Most of all, she loved the Lord. Though her family and friends will miss her greatly, they rejoice in the assurance that they will see her again. "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live; even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die..." John 11:25.
