Shreveport, La- Service for Emma Lou Summerlin, 91, will be held Friday, June 5, 2015 at Christ United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Service will be conducted by Rev. Larry O'Dell and Retired minister, Willis Dear.
Emma went to be with her Lord and Savior at home Friday, May 29, 2015 after a lengthy illness.
She was an active charter member of Christ United Methodist Church where she was a faithful servant. She served as Sunshine chairman and life member of both Hope Circle and the JOY Sunday School class. She was a member of the quilt ministry, attended Cursillo and received a lifetime membership from UMW. Emma was a member of Eastern Star and ABWA. She and her husband owned and operated Summerlin Florist for 32 years and was very active in the community. Emma showed unconditional love to everyone.
During her illness her faith, strength and courage only grea stronger thru Jesus Christ. She shared with many family, friends, and strangers her love for the Lord and how blessed she was. Emma was always a giver never a taker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Mickey, husband Joe Callaway; two granddaughters, Kimberly and her husband, Chris Thom and Holly and her husband, David Doyal; great grandchildren, Garrett, Clara and Emma Thom and Bailey and Max Doyal; one sister and brother in law, Jerry Ann and R. W. Bruce and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tommy Mook for his wonderful compassion and prayers; also Doctors Dhwan, Dr. Del Mundo, Dr. Paul Stafford for their care. Special thanks to the Regional Urology Surgery staff. The family appreciates the loving care of Debbie McDonald, Cynthia Allen and Sammie Parrie. Christus Hospice was wonderful and thank you to Robyn Watkins, RN, Judi Snell, RN, and Stephanie Plunkett, RN and also a heartfelt thanks to her special friends that were there for her during her journey, Nickie Johnson, Bettye Day and Barbara Willis.
