SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of Emma "Mickey" Wierick, 89, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 in the chapel of Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dr. Richard Exley and Rev. Chad Hart. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery-East. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Rose-Neath South.
Mickey was born on August 19, 1925 in Boyce, LA, and passed away on September 7, 2014, in Shreveport, LA. Mickey spent her professional life as a registered nurse; as a Red Cross nurse during the polio epidemic, in hospitals, and as an industrial RN. She enjoyed following the NASA program and exploring nature. It delighted her to watch all the children in the family playing with her collection of toys.
Mickey was preceded in death by husband Charles "Buddy" Wierick, daughter Claudia Phipps, granddaughter Angie Reis, and sister Florence "Bootsie" Holloway.
She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Phipps Lane (Richard), step daughters Cindy Taylor (David) and Lori Miller (Mike), and step son Lynn Wierick (Janice) and those who knew her as "Granny": Sheri Lee, Corey McCallon (Ann), Amanda Tynes (Chris), Chad Hart (Wendy), Jay Shinault, Wendy Shinault, Ray Smith, Lindsey Millspaugh (Steve), Hayley Minor (Jay), and Tyler Wierick, John Miller, Sally Miller, Nick Miller, and Greg Miller. Mickey was "Grandma" to Katie Brunettin Ross. Mickey is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is appreciative to Mickey's sitters: Earnestine Bryant, Pearl Bryant, and Patricia Farruya for their loving care.
The family thanks the following for serving as Pall Bearers: Chris Tynes, Steve Holloway, Robert Holloway, John Holloway, Rusty Hart, Jay Shinault, and Eddie Shinault.
