Ethel Inez David

HOMER, LA: Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Ethel Inez Pardue David, 97, at the First United Methodist Church of Homer on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend R.B. Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Thursday, September 14, 2017 in Homer, LA from 5-7 p.m. Born in 1920, Ethel Pardue David was reared near Downsville, Louisiana just before and throughout the Great Depression. She grew up surrounded by six brothers and sisters. Her mother, Fanny Mae, brought the children up knowing that a hard day's work was a privilege and a responsibility. Hard work would define her life, her family's lives, and that of what would come to be known as "The Greatest Generation". First United Methodist Church became another home for Ethel. Sunday school in the church's Gleaners Class began every Sunday morning followed by worship. The United Methodist Women, Missionary Guild, the Bereavement Committee, and numerous councils and committees were not mere responsibilities, but passions and true expressions of her faith and love for Jesus Christ and the congregation. The last of her generation of the Pardue family, Ethel, with purpose and determination, followed the path of those who came before and have since passed. She fearlessly walked that path quite alone all the while surrounded by family and dear friends. Her last days were filled with longing for the familiar touch of a sister's brush through her hair or a brother's mischief, a daughter's sweet gaze, and the simple knowing that her husband would be at her side come dawn. She longed for a day of working in the yard or preparing a meal for family and friends. Peace is a gift only God can give God is good. God is good. God is so good. P. Bolling Mrs. David was preceded in death by her parents, Houston Edward and Fannie Mae Jones Pardue; husband, James Bryce David; daughter, Eylene Bolling; six siblings, Ruby Louise Pardue, Herschel Pardue, William Morgan "Dick" Pardue, Mary Dorothy Pardue, her twin, Edna Eyelene Pardue and Florence Edweena Pardue. She is survived by her son-in-Law, Ray Bolling; two grandsons, Patrick "Pat" Bolling and David Bolling; three great granddaughters, Hailee Bolling, Shelby Bass and husband Brady, and Kaitlyn Franklin; and one great-great granddaughter, Addison; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers will be Troy Pardue, Shannon Pardue, Brady Bass, Ryan Harmon, Matt Simmons, and Gill Dowies. Honorary pallbearer will be Wayne Perry, Whit Perry, Britt Bolling, George Tigner, Eddy Ralph Harmon, Joe Copeland and United Methodist Men in honor of J.B. David. In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. David, her family suggests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Discretionary Fund, 501 W. Third St., Homer, LA, or the Alzheimer's Association, 910 Pierremont Rd., Ste. 410, Shreveport, LA 71106. TIS THE LAST ROSE OF SUMMER Tis the last rose of summer Left blooming alone; All her lovely companions Are faded and gone; No flower of her kindred, No rose-bud is nigh, To reflect back her blushes, Or give sigh for sigh. I'll not leave thee, thou lone one! To pine on the stem; Since the lovely are sleeping, Go, sleep thou with them. Thus kindly I scatter Thy leaves o'er the bed, Where thy mates of the garden Lie scentless and dead. When friendships decay, And from Love's shining circle The gems drop away. When true hearts lie wither'd And fond ones are flown, Oh! Who would inhabit This bleak world alone? By Thomas Moore
