Funeral services for Ethel Lucille “Maw” Morris Dykes will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2023 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend David Hamm and Reverend Angela Dean.
Lucille was born on December 23, 1929 in Oil City, Louisiana to Hughie H. Morris and Annie Motley Morris and passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
She was a longtime member of North Highlands United Methodist Church where she was a church hostess in the kitchen. She was the leader of the Young at Heart group and served as President and other offices for United Methodist Women (UMW). She enjoyed all arts and crafts from ceramics, woodworking, crocheting, needlework and puzzles. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her Kindle and the church book exchange program.
She is preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Florence Wagner Morris Jones; husband, James Robert Dykes; son, Robert H. Dykes; daughter, Kathy Sue Dykes Weaver; brother, Hughie H. Morris, Jr. and sister, Jo Ann Morris Seabaugh. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Donald R. Dykes and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Robby Dykes and wife, Stephanie, Christopher Garrett and wife, Jennifer, Crystal Hemphill and husband, Steve, Jason Ave’Lallemant and wife, Shenoa, Angela Dean and husband, Travis, Bryan Dykes and wife, Rebecca and Jennifer Eaton and husband, Michael; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Dura Dykes Davis and Leslie Dykes and son-in-law, Jeff Weaver.
Honoring Lucille as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family suggests memorials may be made to North Highlands United Methodist Church, 835 Poleman Rd, Shreveport, Louisiana 71107.
