Eugene Lawrence Walker, Jr.

Funeral services for Eugene Lawrence Walker Jr.,79, will be held Friday, August 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Brother Cory Smith. Eugene was born on April 24, 1941 to Eugene Lawrence Walker Sr. and Lahoma Miller and passed away Friday July, 31, 2020 in Bossier City, Louisiana. Eugene grew up a boy scout living by the scout Oath and Law, doing something for someone each day, always being prepared for almost anything at any time. He met the love of his life, Julia "Judy" Ann Gray, in 1955 and married in 1962. They were husband and wife for 57 years, although they were together for 63 years, surviving many trials and tribulations. They had four children. When Eugene wasn't spending time with his family, you could find him fishing on Cross Lake. He was also an avid hunter, whether it be whitetail deer or elk in Colorado. He was a proud Conservative, a Constitutionalist, and a Numismatic. He believed in The American's Creed, in God's "Golden Rule" and turning the other cheek, but he only had two. He was an original charter member of Troop 96 (1952), Scoutmaster of Troop 10, a "timeless" beaver at Wood Badge (SC-225) 1983, an assistant Scoutmaster of troop 9 Norwela Council (1980-2008). He attended Fairfield Elementary, Linwood Junior High School, Byrd and Fair Park High School. He attended college at Louisiana Tech. Eugene spent four years as an indentured electrician's apprentice and taught in the classroom for two years for the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee of the Contractor's Association. In 1993, he received his diploma from Northwest Louisiana Technical Institute in Minden, Louisiana for Instrumentation Technology. During his 50 years as a member of the IBEW Local # 194, he worked as a journeyman, foreman and master electrician for several of the best electrical contracting companies in Northwest Louisiana. He was Director of Plant Operations for Schumpert Medical Center from 1977 to 1987 and retired in 2007. Eugene was a patron member of the NRA, a life member of the LA Shooters Association, a member of Gun Owners of America and avid First and Second Amendment supporter. In the last several years, he was a banquet committee member, sponsor, volunteer and hunting partner with the National Wild Turkey Federation and North Louisiana Wheelin' Sportsmen. Eugene is survived by his sweetheart and wife, Judy; daughters, Terri Poland and husband Darrell, Andrea Walker Williams, Kelly Carpenter and husband Russell; son, Eugene "Trey" Walker III; six grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Jason, Amanda, Kayla and Kevin; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Logan, Ayden, Jaxson, Payton, Jacob, Alyssa, Ariel and Trenton; great-great-grandchildren, Beaux, Austin and Mason; sisters, Patricia Ann Harper, Shirley Bloomer and husband Jerry and brother Gary Walker and wife Martha. Honoring Eugene as pallbearers will be Jason Williams, Kevin Poland, Donny Venable, Matt Ramsey, Sam "Scooter" Byrd and Jason Cargill. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be USMC CpL. Jacob Garay, Kenny Green, Quin Turner, David Bloomer, Robert Mik, Andrew Walker, James Mik and Patrick Walker. The family would like to express special thanks to Eugene's personal group of physicians, the staff at Willis-Knighton North, Willis-Knighton Pierremont and Cornerstone Hospital. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Shriner's Hospital, CHD for Children and Children's Heart Foundation. "The flowers won't make me feel better."
