Ruth was born on September 4, 1946 to James Lottinger and Doris Lottinger in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

She grew up in Cedar Grove, attending Cedar Grove Methodist Church. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1965, where she met the love of her life, Edwin Fouts. Eddie and Ruth decided to start a family. While expertly fulfilling her duties as a wife and mother, Ruth still found time to put her efforts in the work that mattered to her. She campaigned for Jerry’s Kids on the telephone polls, securing donations for children in need, while also working at Pel-State Oil Company. When questioned about her work by her children, she would always respond that she was a “paper pusher”, however, it is known she was much more than that. Ruth took pride in her work and never gave less than 100%.

Ruth spent many a weekends taking her children to the “Lake House” aka Lake Murvual in Carthage, Texas. She encouraged her children with their first driving task; driving from one stop sign, to the “lake house”. Then, the children too tired to ”drive home”, she took on the task, with a mandatory stop at McDonald’s on the way home. She never minded, she knew there were french fries at her reach.

Eventually Ruth took on a new name and was now affectionally known as Gran-Gran. She held that title proudly. True to her name, she was known for her deep attachment to her grandchildren. On any weekend afternoon they knew they could find her working in her yard, collecting sticks in her old red wagon. If they were lucky, they could go inside and find her famous chicken and dumplings on the stove, and it was no secret that the Reese’s peanut butter cups would be stocked up in the refrigerator.

Among the many things Ruth loved, it would be remiss not to mention the soft spot she had for animals and the deep bond with her English Springer Spaniel, Maggie (who quite literally, saved Ruth’s life) or later, the Boston Terrier, Bishop. Her fur friends brought her much joy.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Fouts, Sr. and in-laws, J.R. “Pappy” Fouts and Sarah Stovall Fouts. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Edwin Fouts, Jr., and wife, Melissa, Jaime Hickman, Hannah Hickman and Kelsey “Rae” Hickman Young and husband, Patrick; grandchildren, Annabelle Clark Marceaux and husband, Thierry, Sarah Ruth Fouts and Jessica Vitkus and fiance, Kyle Lambert; great-grandchildren, Madison Hickman, Connor Young, Amelia Young and Georgia Lambert; brothers, C. J. Lottinger and wife, Kay and Jimmie Joe Lottinger; sister, Helen Bernat and husband, Henry along with a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Honoring Ruth as pallbearers will be Eddie Fouts, Jr., Lance Fouts, Lane Fouts, Lonnie Fouts, Kenneth Frazier, Deward Jackson and Patrick Young.
