Evelyn McLemore Reed

Evelyn was born on April 5, 1925 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana to Mazie Bell Crye and James G. McLemore and passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Evelyn attended Barrett Elementary School, Linwood School for Girls, and Byrd High School in Shreveport, as well as Vivian High School. She married J.D. Reed on April 24, 1943. They had four children that were especially loved by their parents. Evelyn worked for many years and retired from Sears Roebuck Company. She and J.D. loved and attended Church of Christ, North for many years. Evelyn enjoyed the Ladies’ Class there and the New Beginnings Class at Woodridge Baptist Church. They also were a part of the Sojourners after retirement, which is an RV group that travels and does Mission Projects for church groups. Evelyn loved traveling, sewing, cross-stitch, crocheting and working with ceramics. She also enjoyed BUNCO with her neighbors. She loved the simple pleasures of God’s world. She loved watching hummingbirds and growing flowers.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson D. Reed, Jr.; son, Ronny Ray Reed; and granddaughter, Kaitlynn Elizabeth Reed. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Linda Reed Daigle and husband, Jim; son, Tommy R. Reed and wife, Carol; Jefferson D. Reed, III and wife, Angela stepchildren, Jennifer Rose, Jim Daigle, Jr., and Taylor Gamel; granddaughters, Kimberly Reed Hutchings and husband Chess and Karen Reed Collins and husband, Shannon; great-grandchildren, Caleb Andrew Collins, Sarah Elizabeth Collins, Alexandra Elise Hutchings, Julio Villalobos; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers, Wilma Dyer and Elizabeth Stewart for their unending love of mother.
