HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mr. E. Glenn Gibbs, 85, in the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Reggie Day, officiating. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery. The family received friends one hour before the service at the funeral home on Friday.
Mr. Gibbs was born October 24, 1929 in McLeansboro, IL to Giles and Alma Gibbbs. He entered into rest Tuesday, June 9, 2015 in Homer, LA. Mr. Gibbs arrived in Homer from McLeansboro in 1957 and worked for Maritzky-Bibby in the Homer Oilfield until 1970. Then, he continued to work in the oilfield industry with Production Operators of Houston doing compressor maintenance until he retired. Mr. Gibbs served his country in the U.S. Navy between the end of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was discharged on November 4, 1949.
Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 62 years, Gertrude Ducksworth Gibbs; eight brothers, Clyde Gibbs, Walter Gibbs, Ivan Gibbs, Byford Gibbs, John Herman Gibbs, Merrill Gibbs, Dean Gibbs and Kenneth Gibbs.
He is survived by a daughter, Glenda Gibbs Williams; a sister, Katherine McRoy and husband Don; two grandsons, Matthew Williams and wife Jessie of Homer, LA and Bobby Williams and wife Catherine of Ruston, LA; three great grandchildren, Afton, Aiden and Abby Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Matthew Williams, Bobby Williams, Ronald Day, David Musgrove, John Cole, J.O. Haywood and Keith Lee.
