Ferris Luniel Driskill Foster

Ferris Luniel Driskill Foster was a Christmas gift to the world. She was born on December 25, 1932 to Luther Clair Thrift Driskill and Henry Dayton Driskill. She met her Lord Jesus face to face on February 22, 2025, at the age of 92. The Lord planned for her to join Him in Heaven on the same day that she had given birth to her twin boys 68 years earlier. From now on, this shared date will remind them not of sadness, but of the love Ferris had for each of her dear children.

She met the love of her life, Quincy Whitfield Foster, and they were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1955. The majority of Ferris’ working career was spent serving the public in Springhill and St. Joseph, Louisiana as an EMT with an ambulance company and Quincy as the driver. She was very skilled at her profession and was a past president of the Northeast Louisiana EMT Association. Together they raised their four children and enjoyed 51 years of marriage until Quincy’s passing in 2006.

Ferris was loved by all who had the blessing of knowing her. She was also known by her nickname, “Janet,” and her grandma name, “Memaw.” But, in a sweet glimpse into her relationship with her beloved husband, their wedding napkins were embossed with the names they called each other, “Quin and Jan.” It was easy to form a special bond with her because she was thoughtful and caring, investing her time and attention in those she knew and loved.

She was talented at making beautiful decorative cakes, even wedding cakes, and enjoyed collecting glassware and figurines. She was especially close to her daughter, Diane; they shared similar fun-loving personalities. Her favorite times were those spent watching and cheering for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sports, school events, and big moments in life. She gladly joined in every family activity possible, where her sense of humor and sheer joy sometimes added to the mayhem when laughter took over the group! These are treasured memories which will last forever. We are thankful for the love and care given to Ferris by the Grissom family, especially Kim’s devoted attention to her Memaw’s needs and the time they spent together.

Ferris was preceded in death by her husband, Quincy Foster, her daughter, Diane Grissom, son, Jeffery Foster, and her parents. She is survived by her children: Dan Foster (Debbie), Kerry Foster (Joyce), Jerry Foster (Kim); son-in-law Larry Grissom; grandchildren: Jason Foster, Wilson Foster (Fallon), Kim Grissom, Bailee Grissom, Logan Grissom (Bria), Kerri Lynn Barlow (Dr. Chris), Lance Foster (Morgan), Kaleigh Foster, Dr. Stephanie James (Ben), Dr. Scott Witte (Amanda), Jeffrey Witte (Paige); great-grandchildren: Maggi Derbyshire (Brandon), Thomas Jay Hestle; Mallory, Zane, and Madelynn Barlow; Braelynn and Adalynn Foster; Jack, Maisy, Evie, Ainsley, and Sadie James; Lyla and Camilla Witte; and Landon and Lorelai Witte.

The family will hold a private graveside service on April 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park West in Shreveport. Pastor Will Simmons of Calvary Baptist Church will be presiding as we honor Ferris and share our memories of her. We are thankful that she is experiencing the unimaginable joy of her Heavenly Home and the reunion with loved ones as she waits for us there.

“Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in Heaven, not built by human hands.”
2 Corinthians 5:1
