Fines "Leroy" Palmer

Fines “Leroy” Palmer, age 96, of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away on July 10, 2024. He was born on August 17, 1927, in Henderson, Tennessee to Hollis Randolph Palmer and Maggie Elizabeth Owen-Palmer.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024 located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport. Funeral services honoring the life of Leroy will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Tim Thiele. Honoring Leroy as pallbearers will be Clint Hollis, Hunter Hollis, Mike Cosby, Ralph Hollis, Matt Cosby, and John Harris.

Although it was not his first choice, Leroy joined the United States Army. He proudly served in the Korean War earning his Purple Heart metal. He met his wife Mary on a blind date, and they have lived 65 beautiful years together. He was a longtime member of Huntington Church of Christ. Leroy was a brick mason for over 55 years, laying brick for many establishments including St. Jude dream homes and Rose-Neath Funeral Home.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Christine Palmer; siblings, Hazel Duncan, Gracie Mae Henderson, Imogene Turrentine, and Joe Frank Palmer; and grandson, Shane Layfield. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Gentry; stepson, Jerry Layfield; brother, Herman Palmer; granddaughter, Christina McNulty; and grandson, Jeremy Layfield.

Leroy’s passion was harvesting vegetables and distributing them locally with family and friends. He will be most remembered as a very giving man who loved his church family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Leroy.
