Frances Juanita Stone Cook Oakes

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Frances Juanita Stone Cook Oakes, age 87, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 East 5th Street, Homer, LA. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with Bro. Eric Harkins, officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Union Cemetery in Spearsville, LA. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from noon-2 p.m., prior to the service.

Juanita was born July 18, 1937, in Spearsville, LA, to Donald L. and Lonie Beard Stone. She entered into rest on March 27, 2025, in Homer, LA. Juanita was a big sports’ enthusiasts. She attended Spearsville High School where she played basketball. Later in life, Juanita played softball for the Church League. She enjoyed being outdoors doing yard work, especially in her flower beds. “Play Days” on Saturday’s was a favorite activity of family to spend time together. Juanita was employed at the Homer National Bank and later Region’s Bank as a teller. Then, she worked as a receptionist at Meadors and Meadors Law Firm.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald Lavelle Stone and Lonie Ethel Beard Stone; first husband and father of her children, Robert “Bobby” A. Cook; second husband, J.R. Oakes; sister, Lonie Kay; and two grandsons, Robert Michael Elliott and Jeremy Moore.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Corley of Las Vegas, NV, and Kim Elliott and husband Robert of Bernice, LA; two step-children, Jim Oakes of Ruston, LA, and Jane Sears of Bossier City, LA; four grandchildren, Grant Corley, Jill Corley, Morgan Moore, and Candace Elliott; three great-grandchildren, Brock Moore, Jolie Moore, and Lorelai Elliott; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mike Blackwelder, Jim Oakes, Jimmy Williams, James Christian, Tommy Sanders, and Grant Corley.

Juanita’s family would like to express their gratitude to Sandra Thomas and Diane Tabor for the care and compassion shown her over the years.
