Funeral services for Frances Maudice Gaston, 98, will be held Monday, August 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Drive in Bossier City, Louisiana 71111. Reverend David Dietzel will officiate. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park, 601 Highway 80 East, Haughton, Louisiana 71037.
Maudice was born on November 4, 1922, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and passed away peacefully at home where she lived with her daughter in Brandon, Mississippi on July 31, 2021. She moved to Brandon, near Jackson, after suffering a stroke in 2013.
Maudice spent her early years in Trout and Minden, Louisiana, before moving to nearby Haughton where she graduated from Haughton High School in 1941. She was married to her husband, William Monroe Gaston, Sr., for 61 years, and with their two children, they traveled the world while her husband was in the United States Air Force. After her husband retired from military service they moved to Bossier City, Louisiana, where she lived for 49 years.
She was a federal government employee for 41 years, including the Veterans Administration in Shreveport and Barksdale Air Force Base, Maudice retired in 1985. She belonged to First United Methodist Church of Bossier City for over 50 years. She was an active member of the Eastern Star and in 1971 was Worthy Matron of the Bossier Chapter #175. She was also active in the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Mesha Court #63, serving as High Priestess in 2000. She enjoyed volunteering at the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Shreveport.
Maudice once wrote that she was a "people lover and loved meeting and talking with people." Fishing, gardening, and bowling also made her happy. She will be remembered for her playful manner and her contagious, robust laugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" M. Gaston, Sr.; her son, William "Billie" M. Gaston, Jr.; her parents, William Knox Cubley, Sr., and Jewel Tinnin Cagle Cubley; her brothers, William Knox Cubley, Jr. and wife, Arnice, Robert "Sonny" Cubley and wife, Opal, Louie Raymond Cubley and wife, Frances; and her sisters, Jewel Louise Cubley Shoup and husband, Ernie and Merle "Sissy" Cubley May and husband, Rick.
Maudice is survived by her devoted daughter and caregiver, Jan Gaston Martin Taylor; her grandchildren, Kristopher Martin and fiancé, Lauren, Courtney Gaston, Caleb Gaston and wife, Liv; four great-grandchildren, Kayla Martin, Kaige Martin, Rory Gaston-Norton, and Ruby Gaston; her sister, Helen Cubley Day and her special friend, Frances Hansford, who she claimed as her "adopted" daughter and her husband, Dale. She had a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and who also loved her.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Brian Cubley, Dennis Pace, Jake Kilcrease, Johnny Lee Cubley, George Moore, Justin Gildon and Brady Gildon.
