Funeral services for Frances Nugent Petrus will be held Friday, July 25, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Rose-Neath Funeral home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport with Father L. Pike Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shreveport. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday evening, July 24, 2014.
Frances was born September 26, 1927 in Colfax, Louisiana and entered into rest July 20, 2014 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alfred J. Petrus, her parents, Luther and Lydia Nugent, brothers Herschel, Herman, Harold and John Nugent and sisters Lucy Hargis, Thelma King and Doris McGinty, daughter-in-law, Kathy Petrus, and infant granddaughter, Sherri Ann Petrus.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Bob) Petrus, Joseph (Jay) Petrus and wife, Nancy, and only daughter, Lydia Kennedy and husband Gary, grandchildren Richard Petrus and wife, Sarah, Lesa Petrus Townsend, Wendi Grabener and husband, Scott, Justin Petrus and fiancée, Anne, Sarah Nelson and husband, Danny, Alex Kennedy and wife, Elizabeth, and Claire Kennedy and great grandchildren Nick Townsend, Abigail Grabener, Emma Petrus, Owen and Camille Frances Nelson. She is also survived by three brothers W. L. Nugent, Jr., Herbert Nugent and O. D. (Pop) Nugent and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frances loved growing up in a large family, being the eighth of 11 children and the daughter born in the middle of six sons. She was a loving daughter to her parents, Luther and Lydia Nugent, both of whom was Sheriffs of Grant Parish, but was especially devoted to her mother who was widowed when Frances was just 9 years old.
She had a great love of sewing and proudly used those skills for family, friends and neighbors. Frances was also well-known for her pound cakes that she shared by the dozens with family and friends ranging from her doctors to her car repairmen.
Honorary pallbearers are Richard Petrus, Justin Petrus, Alex Kennedy, Scott Grabener, Danny Nelson, Q. A. Hargis III, Donald Lafleur, Richard Reding, Joseph Reding and Nick Townsend.
