Frank Talmadge Koon, husband, father, and Airman went to be with his Lord and Savior in Shreveport, Louisiana on Sunday, September 3, 2017. One of seven children, he was born on September 24, 1932 in Shiloh, GA to Guy and Mamie Koon. His father called him \"Tal,\" having named him after the GA Governor, Eugene Talmadge.
Frank had an "easy smile" and could remember the names of every classmate, every man he served with, and every co-worker. His contented nature and servant heart was a blessing to those around him.
Any reason was a good reason for Frank to go to the beach, loving to swim in the ocean. With his analytical abilities, Frank could always be found tinkering under a car, repairing a mower, or just saying \"we can fix that.\"
While working for the railroad, Frank received draft notification. He sought out and joined the Air Force in 1953, maintaining this nation's aircraft for twenty years. He served our country stateside in Texas, Georgia and Louisiana and on foreign assignments in Alaska (yes, Alaska was foreign tour in the early 1950's), Vietnam and Korea. His last set of orders took him to Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana in August of 1970. He retired from the Air Force in 1973. He retired a second time from Louisiana Machinery.
His legacy will live on through his family who loved him dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Lou (Montgomery) Koon, as well as, his siblings: Jimmy Koon, Betty Parrott, Robert (Buck) Koon, and Donnie Koon and their families. He is pre-deceased by brothers Freeman Koon and Pete Koon. He is lovingly remembered by his four children, David Koon and his wife, Andrea; Dominic Koon and his wife, Jodi; Dana Matheny and her husband, Mitch; and Kimberly Keller. He is remembered fondly by his grandchildren and their spouses (and great-grandchildren): Lyla and Brian Kittrell (Evan, Aiden and Noah); Kara and Benjamin Williams (Daniel, Asher and Elda); Jon and Julie Koon (Harvey, Elliot and Rosalie); Sarah and Ty Bishop; Aaron and Tatiana (Zina); Matthew and Brittany Koon; Calli Cook and Clint Shedd; Kara and Jarrett McCall; Matt and Mackenzie Matheny; Vivienne Keller, and Gideon Keller. His smile was his introduction to you and he enjoyed a good story. He was a generous, loving, kind-hearted husband and father. He had a willing heart that loved to serve and care for his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting remembrances be sent to Gordon College Lindsey Gail Daniel scholarship fund, 419 College Dr. Barnesville, GA 30204.
