Shreveport, LA - Fred Wells, 88, passed away, Sunday March 22, 2015, after a long illness. Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Southside Wednesday March 25, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30pm. A Mass celebrating the life of Frederic D. Wells, of Shreveport, La, on Thursday, March 26, at 2:00 p.m. at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Shreveport. Rev. David Carter (grandson of Fred) along with Msgr. Earl Provenza will concelebrate. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service. Fred was born in Red Oak, Iowa, February 15, 1927. He served in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater, where he served time in Japan after the occupation, then at the Panama Canal as an MP. He married Betty Maggi of Springfield, MO, in 1946. After serving in the Army he graduated from the Mechanical Institute of Missouri in 1948. He and his family moved to Shreveport in 1949, where he had a successful career in the business machine repair/service field. In the mid 1950\'s he began his own business \"Wells Service Company\" known today as \"Wells Office Supplies\". He enjoyed working with anything mechanical, especially old clocks. In 1960, Fred joined the Lions Club. His main focus was the LA Lions Camp for Handicap Children, and Eye Sight Conservation. Fred was one of the founding fathers of the NW LA Lions Eye Bank in Shreveport. In 1974-75, Fred served as the District Governor of District 8L. He is a Life Member of the Lions Clubs International. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to these charities. After the death of his wife of over 51 years. He married Marie McLaughlin. Fred and Betty had five children. Fred was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his daughter Sara (Sally) and son Danny. He is survived by children, Fred, Jr."Rick", Cynthia "Cindy" and Susan and his wife Marie and her daughter, Marcia, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
