HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Mr. Gene William Bays, Sr., 87, at Hebron Baptist Church in Summerfield, LA, on Monday, January 19, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Johnny Adkins and Rev. Kenneth Nutt, officiating. Interment followed at Summerfield cemetery. The family received friends at Hebron Baptist Church on Sunday from 3-6 p.m.
Mr. Bays was born on October 21, 1927in the Homer Oilfield, LA, to Henry and Ruby Bays. He entered into rest Thursday, January 15, at Louisiana Specialty Care of Homer, LA. Mr. Bays served in the U. S. Army. He was an electrician with the New Orleans Public Service for 31 years. Mr. Bays was a 32nd degree Mason and also a part of the Shriner at the Jerusalem Temple in New Orleans.
Mr. Bays was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Glenda Marie Bordelon Bays; two sisters, Margaret White and Marilyn Bays.
He is survived by two sons, Gene Bays, Jr., and Cheryl of Covington, LA, and Bryan Bays and Virna of Mandeville, LA; three daughters, Karen Bays of Summerfield, LA, Debby Falterman and Johnny of Harahan, LA, and Nancy D'Aunoy and Barry of Kenner, LA; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, John Falterman, Jr., Jared Falterman, Eric Macom, Scott D'Aunoy, Aubrey Macom, Gene Bays, III, Andrew Bays, Dustin "Justin" Carroll and Kenneth Carroll.
For friends considering memorials honoring Mr. Bays, his family suggests the Shriners\' Childrens Hospital.
