A celebration of the life of J. E. "Gene" Hayes will begin with a gathering of friends and family on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Blanchard, at 10:00 a.m. for visitation and remembrance. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Doug Allen and Rev. Dale Sauls officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Warren Baptist Church Cemetery in Many, LA.
Gene was born November 15, 1929 in Fisher, LA and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 18, 2017. Introduced to his Heavenly Father on Father's day, what a Savior!
Mr. Hayes moved to Blanchard from Sabine parish in 1948, where he started his career as a mechanic with Craig Equipment and later Scott Tractor, where he became a master mechanic and service manager.
Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Oxley Hayes and Jeff Hayes, his wife of 64 years, Loretta Ashby Hayes, his brother, Marshall Eulon (M.E.) Hayes, his eldest son, Larry Eugene Hayes and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lily Lawrence.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sherri Gipson Hayes; sons, Paul D. Hayes and wife Julie, Roger P. Hayes and wife Rita; daughter, Lori Lawson and husband Mike; daughter-in-law, Peggy Hayes; grandchildren, Jason Hayes and wife Nicole, Jennifer Wallette and husband Michael, Jeremy Hayes and wife Jennifer, Candice Livingston, Sonya Hayes, Sierra Hayes, Michael Lawrence, Angela Pesnell and husband Chris, Mark Lawrence, Jeffrey Lawson, Shelley Gent and husband Chris, Christy Hayes, Jamie Guthrie and husband Shawn, and Laurie Hayes; great-grandchildren, Anna Hayes, Evan and Reagan Gent, Aiden Duplantis, Kaylee Guthrie, Chris Wallette, Jason Wallette, Anastasia McCorkle, Hannah Hayes, Jerimiah Hayes, Luke, Ethan, Emma, and Bella Lawrence, Elizabeth Lawrence, and Austin Pesnell. Sister Margaret Jane Leach and husband Pep; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Hayes, Margaret Helms and husband Darrell; and brother-in-law, James Ashby and wife Sue.
Honoring Gene as pallbearers will be Terral Whetstone, Ronny Welch, Pat Richardson, Roger Patterson, Stephen Tompkins, Ronnie Cassels, Ed Merryman, and Jason Lang. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Blanchard.
