SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral Services Celebrating the life of George Assad Khoury, Jr., will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, LA, with The Rev. Paul D. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday May, 19, 2018, at the funeral home.
George was born November 12, 1929, in Shreveport, LA to Regina Joseph Khoury and George Assad Khoury and passed away May 16, 2018, in Shreveport, LA. A Fair Park High School graduate, George received a Petroleum Engineering Degree from Louisiana State University. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, earning a bronze star for meritorious service. After his discharge, he began a long and distinguished career in the oil and gas industry, spending much of his working life overseas in the Middle East, Norway, Japan and Myanmar. He and his crew were credited with bringing in the first oil well in Egypt. George also was a noted philanthropist in Shreveport, with his passions being health care and education. Among the recipients of his generous gifts were St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; the LSUS Foundation, to which he donated multiple professorships and two scholarship funds and was a former Pilot of the Year; Southern University Shreveport, to which he donated a professorship and from which was awarded the 2016 Education Humanitarian recipient; the LSU Foundation; Fair Park High School; Feist Weiller Cancer Center; Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
George was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Walter Fadal. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Lillian Fadal of Waco, TX, and Jeanette Khoury of Shreveport, LA; niece, Rosanne Fuller and husband Hayes of Waco, TX; nephew, Carroll Fadal and wife Hatt of Waco, TX; great-nieces, Kathryn Williams and husband Noel of Waco, TX and Annie Kicia and husband Mike of Tampa, FL; great-nephew, Eric Fuller of The Woodlands, TX; and great-great-nieces, Caroline Williams of Waco, TX, Alexandria Fuller of The Woodlands, TX, and Blake Rose Kicia of Tampa, FL.
Honoring George as pallbearers will be Paul Burch, Greg Gani, Robert Hernandez, Ron Nader, Jason Russell and Jimmy Theriot. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Asaff, Joe Cush and Donald Mack.
