SHREVEPORT, LA - On his birthday December 11, 2016, George H. McLain went to be with his Lord and Savior. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Park East, St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA. Rev. Chad Hardbarger will be officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14th at the funeral home.
George was born in Shreveport to Henry and Florence McLain. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a machinist from Modern Iron and in his later years worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 44 years, Geraldine "Jerry" McLain; his sisters, Christine Jones, Grace Dallas, and Cleo Hooper. Left to cherish his memory are his son, James Harvey Garsee and wife, Connie; daughters, Linda Carol Brown and husband, Cooter, and Darlene Causey and husband, Ronald; grandchildren, Jeffery, Jason and Justin Brown, Katherine Byrnside, Kelly Joyner, Kristy Garsee, Kassy Garsee and Lacy Howard; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Honoring George as pallbearers will be Ronnie Culver, Scott Martin, Mike Gaddis, Brian Graham, Justin Brown, and Gary Bailes.
Honorary pallbearers will be George's grandsons and great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 5850 Buncombe Rd., Shreveport, LA 71129.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. James Jackson and Dr. Anil Veluvolu for all the excellent care they gave to our father, also a thanks to Rachel at Louisiana Home Care for all the support, compassion and love she gave.
