Gerald Robert Harris (Jerry Harris), 86, finished the race faithfully and earned his reward of heaven on Saturday, September 26, 2020. We will hold his memories of teachings, everything country and old western movies in our hearts forever. Visitation to celebrate his life will be at University Church of Christ on 70th Street in Shreveport, Louisiana, September 29, 2020 from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 10:00 am, also, at University Church of Christ. Interment will immediately follow the service at St. Rest Cemetery in Lincoln Parish where Jerry will be laid to rest beside his bride, Carolyn. Ceremonies will be officiated by Jerry Hodge and Stuart Freeman.
Jerry Harris was born on March 12, 1934 in Dennison, Texas. Throughout his life, he loved unconditionally, was an avid scholar of the scripture, believed fiercely in God, and had a talent for teaching and baptizing people into Christ. Teaching others about Christ was his drive and he did it well. Jerry built a successful business "Jerry Harris Advertising" in 1970, which later changed to "Jerry Harris Originals" when he began designing artwork for businesses. His work in television and radio broadcasting has supported many local businesses within his community. Known as the "Artist of Legends", his talent as an artist was unprecedented. His artwork was proudly displayed in the historical Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jerry was an author, a thinker and an entrepreneur, who turned his thoughts into opportunities. He has been recognized throughout Shreveport and the surrounding communities for his skill and creativity. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Air force.
Preceding him in death was his faithful wife of 44 years, Carolyn Harris; his mother, Helen Marie Hurt and husband, Ross Hurt. He is survived by his three daughters, Gigi Perez of Ruston, Angie Bush and husband, Matt Bush of Allen, Texas and Terry-Harris Hall of Bakersfield, California and his grandchildren, Holden Harris, Cameron, Makayla and Parker Perez, Austin, Blake, Emily and Brenden Bush and Lauren-Hall Vazquez, Leah-Hall Crane and Seth Hall. He is also survived by his best friend and companion, Charlene Todd.
Honoring him as pallbearers will be his grandsons and good friend, Johnny Wessler. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Don Maxwell, Kent Gill, Wayne Simmons, Jim Frazier, Larry Porter and David Pope.
The family would like to thank University Church of Christ, Airline Church of Christ and Southern Hills Church of Christ for all of the prayers that were lifted up during his time of need. He has fought the good fight, kept the faith and finished the race.
